Open shiftWhat it means, in plain English

An open shift is a shift on the rota that has not yet been assigned to a named employee. Managers publish open shifts so that qualified, available staff can claim or request them, often on a first-come or approval basis. They are widely used to cover gaps left by absence, seasonal demand or unfilled vacancies without resorting to agency staff.
