OvertimeWhat it means, in plain English
Overtime is time worked beyond an employee's normal contracted hours. There is no statutory right to premium overtime pay in the UK; rates come from the contract, and the legal floor is simply that average pay for all hours must not fall below the National Minimum Wage. Regular, guaranteed or compulsory overtime usually has to be reflected in holiday pay, and total hours remain subject to the 48-hour average weekly limit unless the worker has opted out.
